Other Interesting Dachshund events both past and future:

The AKC Eukanuba Invitational will be in Orlando, Florida in 2011 and, Hungarian Breeder-Judge Dr.Tamas Jakkel will be judging all dachshunds. He was in Florida several years ago for the Daytona shows and was a pleasure to watch as he carefully evaluated all exhibits. Should be wonderful to see what he finds worthy at the National Championship show.

Just for fun, it might interest you to see what a Dachshund Specialty looks like in Europe. Click on the link below to be taken to the 2008 French National Dachshund Specialty.

French National Dachshund Specialty Once there, you can see the results and a slide show of some of the dogs that were entered. It might be helpful to note that poil ras means smooth, poil dur means wire, and poil long means long hair. They have three sizes at FCI shows, standard, nain which is our mini, and kaninchen which is the smallest size. A hint while you are watching the slide show: precedent means previous and suivante means next.

For an interesting article on  showing in conformation and how a preferred breed type emerges and is rewarded by some judges, click on the link: http://www.thedogplace.org/Articles/Breeder/0901-Preferred-Type_Gammill.htm

For news from the Fédération Internationale Cynologique click on the link FCI Magazine. You will be able to see what has been happening and, if you click on the Standards and Nomenclature tab (above the area where you click to see the magazine) you will see that, in FCI countries, since they recognize three varieties and three sizes, Dachshunds have their own group!

The FCI World Show for 2011 will be held in Paris, France, from July 7-10. Palrez-vous français?

For dachshund results from the 2011 World Show in Paris  click on the link World Dachshund Results. Then, under Information, choose Live Results from Show. On the next page, choose Mondiale and you will be taken to the 2011 World Show results page. Dachshunds, or Teckel s as they are called there, are in their own group - Group 4, and you can click on the magnifying glass next to Group 4 on the left hand side of the page to see a highlighted area with each variety. Remember, Poil long is for long coat, Poil ras is for smooth coat, and Poil dur is for wire coat. They have 3 sizes at FCI shows so, Teckel Standard is self explanatory, Teckel Nain is for Miniature, and Teckel de chasse de lapin is for their smallest size, the rabbit dachshund.
